Raakhee Gulzar
(born August 15, 1947 in India), also known as Raakhee, is an Indian Bollywood actress originally from the state of West Bengal . Raakhee Gulzar's career spans from the 1970s to the present.
While still a teenager, Raakhee
had a very brief unhappy marriage to Bengali film director Ajay Biswas.
Raakhee
won rave reviews for her first Bengali film Badhu Baran 1967 in Calcutta after which she was offered the lead role in her first Hindi film, Jeevan Mrityu 1970 in Bombay .
Her main claim to fame was the 1971 film Sharmilee where she played a double role starring opposite Shashi Kapoor. She has since starred in many more blockbuster films most notably in Kabhie Kabhie, Muqaddar Ka Sikander, Trishul and Kaala Patthar.
She also did some memorable films like Daag (1973), Tapasya (1976) , Jurmana (1979) and Bemisaal (1982).
Towards the 80s and 90s she often played supporting roles usually playing a mother in Baazigar, Karan Arjun, Soldier and Baadshah.
In 2001 she once again starred opposite Amitabh in Ek Rishta: The Bond of Love. She is married to famous film director, poet and lyricist Gulzar. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2003.
She also has a daughter called Meghna (Bosky) who had directed a film named Filhaal starring Sushmita Sen, Tabu, Sanjay Suri and Palaash Sen.
