A harvard graduate and fulbright scholar,
Perveen Shakir was born on November 24, 1952 in Karachi, Pakistan. She also
studied English Literature and Linguistics at the University of Karachi and
taught the same to the undergraduates before joining the Civil Services of
Pakistan. She has given the most
beautiful female touch to Urdu Poetry..........
Now the perspective and themes are no more
those of a young emotional girl but that of a mature, sensitive women whose
individual perception has become a comprehensive, collective vision of throbbing
mind......... 3rd World International.
Parveen Shakir was undoubtedly the most
popular Urdu poetess of modern times. Urdu poetry lost her in the prime of her
life following a tragic accident in 1994.
